  Kumaun University is headquartered in Nainital. The University was established in 1973 under the UP State Act. The University has two campuses one each in Nainital and Almora and 31 affiliated colleges, 05 government aided colleges and 27 self financed colleges/ institutes spread over the whole Kumaun region, that are fast adding a lot of beautiful structures to add to the panoramic and scenic beauty of the surroundings. One more Campus is being developed at Bhimtal to cater the needs of professional, technical and vocational education. The teaching and research activities are being carried out in both the residential campuses and affiliated colleges of the university and during last three years, untiring efforts have been made to establish the healthy academic atmosphere and to develop the research oriented curriculum enabling the students to follow the part of higher learning.

 

 The university being located in the upland hilly area of new state of Uttarakhand serves the educational needs of the socially and economically weak region. It has developed some highly recognized centers of scientific and social researches and is imparting excellent research and teaching in 27 (23 postgraduate and 4 undergraduate) departments. Freedom of the highest order of research is the main strength of this university.

 

Nestled in the lap of nature Kumaun University, under the dynamic Vice-chancellorship of Professor Rakesh Bhatnagar, an internationally known renowned Biotechnologist with a number of international and national distinctions to his credit is playing a pivotal role to impart quality education and excellent research to improve the quality of human values irrespective of caste, creed, gender, religion and region.  BRIEF PROFILE

 

¤  NAAC accredited ‘Four Star” University and an ISO 9001:2008 certified Institute, Which follows International Quality Management System.

¤  Established on 1st December 1973, Kumaun University, a residential-cum-affiliating university and is a permanent member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

¤  It sprawls over in three campuses (DSB Campus in famous hill station Nainital, SSJ Campus in Cultural Capital of Uttarakhand, Almora and Bhimtal Campus in Ancient Town of Bhimtal)

¤  Total area covered by the university is 160 acres, with a further thirty-five affiliated colleges spread far and wide across the Kumaun region.

¤  Special emphasis is placed by the university to uphold the motto of excellence in teaching; the University has given a new direction and dimension to the higher studies in this region.

¤  To ensure better education the university has introduced semester system as per UGC guidelines.

¤  Kumaun University has been imparting quality education in various disciplines through the Faculties of Arts, Science, Commerce & Management, Law, Education, Technology and Medicine.

¤  The main focus of the University has been to include the courses which are relevant and facilitate the learners in developing skills and procure easy job access.

¤  In course of this evolutionary growth, the latest additions like special Directorates and Cells with their focused and coherent approach shall develop Kumaun University along the lines of the best Universities in the country.

¤  The university has started entrance exam for Ph.D, Central library is being equipped with Anti-plagiarism software to ensure quality in research.

¤  University is organizing SET exam in near future for Uttarakhand state.

BACKDROP

¤  Kumaun University, a residential-cum-affiliating university, was established on 1st December 1973 under the Act of State Legislature (U P State Universities Act).

¤  The University Grants Commission (UGC) granted full recognition to the University on June 30, 1984.

¤  Ever since its inception, Kumaun University has always held a place of pride among the state universities.

¤  Kumaun University is permanent member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

¤  Kumaun University has been awarded FOUR Stars status by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

¤  Kumaun University is an ISO 9001-2008 certified institution, which follows International Quality Management System.

¤  Kumaun University consists of two campuses at Nainital and Almora, University is developing its third campus at Bhimtal to cater the technical, professional and vocational education.

¤  35 affiliated Government Colleges; and almost equal number of affiliated self-financed private institutions spread across the Kumaun region.

¤  B.Com. with Management Group, Accounting Group, Business Economics and Business Laws Group with qualifying course on environmental sciences.
